Lyle Laizure began training Aikido under Ron Christenham Sensei at the Sarpy Aikido Club in 1992. From 1996 to 1998 he served as the youth instructor and Christenham Sensei’s otomo. In 1998, he received permission from Christenham Sensei to establish an affiliate dojo. In the early days practices were held in various locations parks, backyards, school gymnasiums and for a short time in his apartment living room in Bellevue, NE. After a short time spent at the Benson Community Center, in 2004 Hinode Dojo found its current home at the A.V. Sorensen Community Center. Later, in 2007 Hinode Dojo was formed into an LLC.
In 1999, Laizure Sensei attended a Japanese swordsmanship seminar being hosted by Eric McKillican Sensei. He continued training Japanese swordsmanship under McKillican Sensei, changing styles in 2003 to Shinkendo, until McKillican Sensei’s relocation back to California. It was at this time, in 2008, with McKillican Sensei’s recommendation and Obata Kaiso’s permission that Laizure Sensei would lead Shinkendo in Nebraska and the Omaha Shinkendo Kai was absorbed into Hinode Dojo, LLC. Currently Laizure Sensei holds the rank of godan in Aikido, issued by Aikikai Honbu Dojo in Japan. He also holds the rank of toku-e in Shinkendo, and a nidan in Toyama Ryu both issued by Obata Kaiso from his Honbu Dojo in Los Angeles, California.
